Kidnapped Kempton Park Woman Returns Alive As Police Probe Possible Link To Five Murders

Police have opened a kidnapping case after a woman reported missing in Kempton Park returned alive, as investigators examine whether her alleged abduction could be connected to the deaths of at least five women whose cases are under investigation in the area.

The woman was allegedly abducted in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, before later returning and reportedly presenting herself at the Tembisa South police station.

Police have confirmed that she works at the Premier Hotel OR Tambo but have not confirmed the precise location from which she was allegedly taken.

Sources indicated that the incident occurred near an area colloquially known as Mosquito Park, about 150 metres from the hotel.

Investigators have not disclosed how the woman managed to return, whether she escaped or was released, or how many people may have been involved.

Police Open Kidnapping Case

Kempton Park police spokesperson Dipuo Ditshego confirmed that a kidnapping case had been opened but said investigators were not yet in a position to release detailed information.

“Currently, we don’t have the description of the vehicle [that abducted the woman] as the investigation is still premature,” Ditshego said.

Police have also not disclosed whether the woman was able to provide investigators with descriptions of the person or people allegedly responsible for her abduction.

The investigation is being handled at provincial and national level.

“This is being dealt with by the national [and] provincial office. Once all the investigation and information is gathered, we will liaise back to the media with full information,” Ditshego said.

Possible Connection To Five Women's Deaths Investigated

The alleged kidnapping comes amid heightened concern over the discovery of the bodies of several women in and around Kempton Park in recent months.

At least five women's deaths are currently under investigation.

Police are examining whether there are connections between the cases but have cautioned against reaching conclusions while investigations remain under way.

The fact that the latest woman survived could potentially provide investigators with information that was unavailable in cases where victims were found dead.

Her account could assist police in establishing how she was approached, what happened after she was allegedly abducted and whether any details correspond with evidence gathered in the other investigations.

However, police have not established publicly that her alleged kidnapping is connected to any of the women's deaths.

Councillor Says Survivor's Account Could Be A Breakthrough

Kempton Park DA ward councillor Simon Lapping said the woman's return could prove significant if investigators establish a connection between her case and the deaths already under investigation.

“It could be a breakthrough,” Lapping said.

“But we will continue to pressure the police to prioritise this investigation. The community is living in fear, and it is spreading throughout the whole city. We cannot afford to let this slide.”

Lapping said he remained confident in the ability of police to investigate the cases and committed himself to assisting with communication between authorities and the community.

Investigators could potentially compare the woman's account with evidence from the other cases, including locations, methods of approach and other circumstances surrounding the incidents.

Police Caution Against Serial Killer Speculation

The deaths have fuelled theories about whether Kempton Park is dealing with a serial offender or whether several perpetrators could be responsible.

Police have not confirmed either theory.

Investigations into the deaths and the latest alleged kidnapping remain under way, and authorities have stressed that conclusions about possible connections should not be drawn before the evidence has been fully assessed.

For investigators, the return of a living alleged kidnapping victim introduces a potentially important source of first-hand evidence.

Whether her account ultimately establishes a connection to any of the five deaths will depend on the outcome of the police investigation.
