Bank Gaborone Marks 20 Years In Botswana As It Sets Sights On Next Phase Of Growth
Bank Gaborone is marking two decades of operations in Botswana, having grown from its first branch in the capital into a financial institution serving individuals and businesses across the country.

Bank Gaborone is celebrating 20 years of operations in Botswana, marking two decades since receiving its banking licence and opening its first branch in Gaborone in 2006.
The bank began operations from a branch on Pilane Road in Main Mall and has since expanded its presence and range of financial services across the country.
Acting Managing Director Tsaone Raboloko said the anniversary provided an opportunity for the bank to reflect on its development while preparing for its next phase of growth.
“As we celebrate 20 years of Bank Gaborone, we do so with immense pride in what has been achieved and deep appreciation for the people who made it possible,” Raboloko said.
“While we celebrate our branches, innovations, products and milestones, we recognise that people built this bank.”
From One Branch To A Broader Banking Business
Since its establishment, Bank Gaborone has expanded its operations across retail, business, commercial and corporate banking.
In retail banking, the institution provides home financing, education financing, savings products and other personal financial services.
Its business, commercial and corporate divisions provide financial services to entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises and larger companies.

The bank says these activities have contributed to business expansion, employment and broader economic activity in Botswana over the past two decades.
Bank Gaborone operates under the stated purpose of being “Connectors of Positive Change”, which it says guides its approach to customers, businesses and communities.
Raboloko credited employees, whom the bank refers to as “Citizens”, for the institution's development.
“The commitment, passion and dedication of our Citizens over the years have enabled us to create positive change for our customers, communities and the broader Botswana economy,” he said.
Digital Banking Becomes Part Of Growth Strategy
Technology has also become an increasingly important part of Bank Gaborone's operations during its 20 years in business.
The bank has introduced mobile and online banking alongside several digital payment and account-management services.
Its technology offerings have included credit cards, card-to-card transfers, Easy-2-Pay, self-onboarding services and integration with mobile money platforms.
The expansion of digital services reflects a broader shift in the banking industry towards allowing customers to conduct transactions without relying exclusively on physical branches.

Bank Gaborone says its investment in technology has been aimed at improving convenience, accessibility and financial inclusion.
Raboloko said the bank's values — which it identifies as being Inspired, Dedicated and Open-Minded — had helped guide its response to changes in the financial-services industry.
“These values continue to guide how we serve our customers and support our stakeholders,” he said.
“They have inspired us to innovate, dedicated us to excellence, and enabled us to embrace change in a rapidly evolving banking environment.”
Bank Looks Beyond 20-Year Milestone
While the anniversary provides an opportunity to look back at Bank Gaborone's development since 2006, the institution says its focus is increasingly on what comes next.
The bank plans to continue investing in customer relationships, financial products and technological innovation as it enters its third decade of operations.
“Twenty years is not the destination; it is the foundation for our next chapter,” Raboloko said.
“As we enter a new financial year, we will continue to challenge ourselves to deliver even greater value to our customers, strengthen relationships, drive innovation and contribute meaningfully to Botswana’s development.”
Raboloko said the bank believed further opportunities remained for expansion and development.
“Together, we have achieved a great deal, but our best years are still ahead of us,” he said.
Bank Gaborone also acknowledged customers, shareholders, business partners, regulators and current and former employees for their roles in the institution's development since 2006.
As it enters its third decade, the bank says it intends to continue connecting individuals and businesses with financial opportunities while pursuing further growth in Botswana's banking market.
