Wicknell Chivayo Reportedly Killed In Zimbabwe Helicopter Crash
Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo is reported to have died in a helicopter crash near Marondera, with government confirming that there were no survivors.
Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo is reported to have been among six people killed in a helicopter crash near Marondera in Mashonaland East on Wednesday evening.
The government confirmed that a helicopter carrying six people crashed in the Marondera Rural area, with no survivors reported.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana confirmed the crash in a statement on X.
“The Government wishes to confirm that a helicopter crash has occurred, involving one high-profile businessman, four passengers, and two pilots.”
Mangwana said initial information indicated that nobody survived the crash.
“Current information indicates that there were no survivors in this crash. The Zimbabwe Republic Police will confirm the names of the victims in due course.”
The government extended its condolences to the victims’ families and friends.
Police Confirm Crash Near Marondera
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the crash occurred at about 5pm on Wednesday.
Police and other relevant authorities were dispatched to the scene, where investigations were under way.

In a statement, the ZRP said:
“The ZRP confirms a plane crash in Marondera Rural area at 1700 hours, this evening. The aircraft had six occupants.”
Police said further information would be released once more details had been established.
“The scene is currently being attended to and more details will be released in due course,” said the ZRP.
Chivayo's Reported Death Yet To Be Officially Named
Chivayo’s name was reported by prominent Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono following the crash.
However, the government statement did not identify the businessman or the other occupants, saying the police would confirm the victims’ names in due course.
The supplied information also states that Chivayo’s wife was among those who died. This has not been included among the officially confirmed identities because the government and police statements provided do not name the victims.
