FlySafair Confirms Jet Fuel Supply Disruptions At OR Tambo
FlySafair says it has experienced disruption to expected jet fuel supplies at OR Tambo International Airport this week, but its operations remain protected by contingency arrangements.
The disruption follows planned maintenance at the Natref refinery, where Sasol says an unplanned shutdown of a downstream unit has also affected its ability to fulfil its full supply commitments for certain product grades.
Fuel Supply Disruptions Affect Airport Operations
FlySafair confirmed that the airline has been affected by changes in jet fuel supply dynamics at OR Tambo this week, amid disruptions involving several fuel suppliers.
The airline said it has responded by temporarily increasing supplies from suppliers that have fuel available, allowing it to maintain its operations while the situation is monitored.

FlySafair spokesperson Kirby Gordon said the airline was continuing to work with the relevant parties as the supply situation developed.
“There have been some disruptions to the expected jet fuel supply dynamics at OR Tambo this week, with a number of factors coming into play affecting the various suppliers,” Gordon said.
Sasol Reports Natref Supply Constraints
Sasol said the Natref refinery has experienced an unplanned shutdown of a downstream unit, affecting its ability to meet its full supply commitments for certain product grades.
The refinery has also been undergoing planned maintenance, according to the information provided.
The disruption to refinery operations has contributed to changes in the availability of jet fuel supplies at OR Tambo, although FlySafair said its immediate operations are covered by contingency measures.
FlySafair Monitoring The Situation
Gordon said FlySafair had put measures in place to temporarily increase supply from fuel providers with available stock.
“For now, FlySafair operations are completely protected by contingencies that we’ve put in place to temporarily increase supply from those suppliers with available fuel, but we continue to monitor things and work with various parties as the situation develops,” he said.
The airline has not indicated that the fuel supply disruption has resulted in cancellations or broader operational changes. Its statement said its services were currently protected by the contingency arrangements in place.
