Shadrack Sibiya To Learn Bail Fate In Sexual Offences Case
The former deputy national police commissioner faces allegations of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl and raping an 18-year-old woman, charges he has disputed in court.

Former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is expected to learn on Tuesday whether he will be granted bail, as the Randburg Magistrates’ Court prepares to deliver judgment following three weeks of arguments between the state and the defence.
The 59-year-old faces allegations of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl and raping her 18-year-old friend.
During the bail proceedings, Sibiya denied sexually grooming the younger complainant, despite evidence presented to the court that he allegedly sent her explicit videos.
He acknowledged having sexual intercourse with the 18-year-old but denied that it was non-consensual.
State Argues Evidence Points To Alleged Rape
Prosecutor Velile Makasana argued that the evidence before the court supported the state’s case against Sibiya.
“There is evidence that there was a clear build-up plan to the ultimate rape,” Makasana told the court.

The prosecution’s position contrasts with Sibiya’s denial of the allegations. The court is expected to consider the arguments presented by both sides when deciding whether to grant bail.
Sibiya Resigns From SAPS
Sibiya has resigned from the South African Police Service (SAPS) amid the proceedings.
The bail judgment will determine whether he is released while the case continues. A decision on bail does not determine guilt or innocence in the underlying allegations.
