Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed that she sometimes grabs her son’s phone when he goes too far during Instagram Live sessions.

Ogulu made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, where she discussed Burna Boy’s personality and his occasionally controversial moments online.

She said she has learnt to give her son room to express himself rather than attempting to completely change the traits that define his personality and artistry.

“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.

Ogulu Says Burna Boy’s Personality Is Part Of His Appeal

Ogulu said some of the emotions that can contribute to Burna Boy’s controversial behaviour are also connected to the qualities that his fans appreciate about him.

She argued that completely suppressing those characteristics could also affect the qualities that have contributed to his appeal as an artist.

“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from. Within, we do what we can,” she said.

Ogulu added that she intervenes when she believes her son’s online behaviour has gone too far.

“I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” she said.

Burna Boy’s Instagram Live Sessions

Burna Boy has built a reputation for his outspoken presence on social media, with his Instagram Live sessions occasionally drawing public attention because of his comments and interactions with fans.

Ogulu’s comments provide an insight into how she balances her roles as both his mother and manager, allowing him to maintain his individuality while intervening when she believes his online conduct has crossed a line.
