Madlanga Commission Hears Recording Of Call Between Deena Govender And Mavuso Ntandani
A recording played at the Madlanga Commission captures a conversation between KwaZulu-Natal Hawks officer Lieutenant-Colonel Deena Govender and Mavuso Ntandani, shortly before Govender appeared before the inquiry.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has heard a recording of a telephone conversation between KwaZulu-Natal Hawks’ Lieutenant-Colonel Deenadayalan “Deena” Govender and Mavuso Ntandani, who has been described before the inquiry as a close associate of suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The call took place on the 21st of this month, shortly before Govender was due to appear before the commission.

Govender had previously told the inquiry that Ntandani informed him that unnamed individuals wanted him to implicate KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in connection with police shootings in the province.
Recording Captures Discussion About Support
In the recording played to the commission, Govender asked whether “the Minister” would support him.
Ntandani responded that he would “100 percent” and instructed Govender not to tell anyone.
The recording comes after Govender's earlier testimony about an alleged attempt to put pressure on him in relation to Mkhwanazi.
Mchunu Has Denied Allegations
Mchunu has denied the allegations made against him.
The conversation and Govender's previous testimony form part of evidence being considered by the Madlanga Commission. The allegations and claims raised in the proceedings remain subject to the inquiry's assessment.
The commission is investigating matters arising from allegations concerning policing and criminal activity, with evidence from witnesses being examined as part of its proceedings.
