Mwingi MP Apologises To Life Water Canada Over NGO Remarks
Gideon Mulyungi has withdrawn his earlier concerns about the Canadian NGO and reaffirmed its role in water and sanitation projects across Mwingi Central
Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has apologised to Life Water Canada over remarks he previously made about the organisation, saying the Canadian NGO is credible and has not been involved in corrupt activities in his constituency.
Mulyungi said he had reached an understanding with the organisation’s directors following discussions between the two sides and agreed to a new working arrangement aimed at strengthening cooperation between his office, residents and the NGO.
“I want to categorically apologise to Life Water Canada for the heartbreaking remarks I made about them and the damage I may have caused to the character of their organisation,” Mulyungi said in a statement.

The MP, who chairs the Decentralised Funds Account Committee, said a virtual meeting with the NGO’s directors helped resolve differences that had emerged between them.
MP Withdraws Earlier Concerns
Mulyungi’s statement reverses concerns he raised about Life Water Canada’s activities in Mwingi Central days earlier.
He now says Life Water Canada and Life Water Rescue are “credible organisations, transparent, accountable, honest and very cooperative” and are not involved in corrupt dealings in Mwingi Central or elsewhere in Kenya.
“I want to confirm that Life Water Canada and Life Water Rescue are credible organisations, transparent, accountable, honest and very cooperative, and they are not engaged in any corrupt deals in Mwingi Central or anywhere else in Kenya,” he said.
Mulyungi also sought to reassure residents that the NGO would continue implementing water and sanitation projects in the constituency.
NGO Has Drilled More Than 100 Boreholes
According to Mulyungi, Life Water Canada has drilled more than 100 boreholes in Mwingi Central, benefiting communities and schools affected by water shortages.
He said the projects have reached nearly half of the schools in the constituency, while additional boreholes have been drilled in villages.

The NGO has also constructed ablution blocks at several schools and supplied water tanks and piped hand-washing facilities, according to the MP.
Mulyungi said residents should continue applying directly to Life Water Canada for boreholes, as they had previously done.
New Working Arrangement Agreed
The MP said he and the NGO had agreed on a “cordial modus operandi” for future cooperation, with the aim of protecting and strengthening a relationship built over several years.
“I want to confirm to the people of Mwingi Central that the NGO will continue working in the constituency unabated and in close partnership with the community and my office,” he said.
The clarification is expected to ease tensions surrounding the organisation’s projects in the constituency and restore cooperation between the MP’s office, the community and Life Water Canada.
