The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe is expected to resume at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday, with seven additional witnesses scheduled to give evidence over the following three days.

The witnesses include police officials and medical experts, who have objected to their testimonies being recorded.

Tembe died in April 2021 after falling from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. At the time, she was engaged to South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, and the pair had been together in a hotel room shortly before her death.

The proceedings are examining the circumstances surrounding her death, with witnesses providing accounts of events before and after the incident.

Previous Testimony Details Hotel Emergency Call

Last month, eight witnesses testified about the events leading up to Tembe’s death and the immediate aftermath.

A hotel employee told the inquest that she received a distressed telephone call from Forbes, who asked for assistance with someone he said was threatening to jump from a balcony.

The employee testified that she heard a scream followed by a loud bang while she was still on the telephone.

Hotel Manager Testifies About Alcohol Decision

The hotel’s general manager told the inquest that staff had been instructed not to serve tequila shots ordered by Forbes and his entourage on the morning of the incident.

According to the manager, Forbes was unhappy with the decision but did not become upset.

Seven Witnesses Expected To Testify

The next phase of the inquest is expected to include evidence from seven witnesses over three days. Their professional backgrounds include policing and medicine.

The witnesses have objected to the recording of their testimonies, although the supplied information does not specify the grounds for their objections or how the court intends to address them.

Their evidence is expected to contribute to the ongoing examination of the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death.
